Life Lately

The Reason Why I Blog

In writing, we are encouraged to find our “voice”. That unique way of connecting with an audience that distinguishes us from a sea of other voices.

Yet, it becomes more difficult to speak in our “voice” when we bother so much with SEO, followers, site statistics, advertisements, brand collaborations and freelancing gigs which bothers most writers in cyberspace nowadays. It’s easy to get lost in translation and lose touch of why we write. It’s easy to lose our voice.

And it’s not just in writing. We showcase our lives in a filtered photo or in 140 characters. People judge us at face value without knowing the underlying struggles, insights and emotions behind a captured moment.

Social media isn’t the culprit. Most of the time, we like highlighting only the good points. We like the idea of cropping out the bad and mega-enhancing the good. We like the attention even without the connection. But I hope we, as netizens, become responsible enough to use social media not just for the “self” but to encourage others as well.

In followyouroad, I would like to encourage us to…

Why I Blog #1 Appreciate our lives

Upon seeing amazing travel photos, we may be tempted to think our life sucks because we are stuck. But my hope for my blog is that it actually encourages you to look around and see the tiny details of awesomeness right in your own neighborhood.

Why I Blog #2 Try new things

Especially the ones we think we can’t do or we won’t enjoy. This can be a physically challenging task of climbing a mountain or the simple out-of-the-comfort-zone experience of ordering from another restaurant. Whatever it is, I hope we start going off the grid, taking a break from the daily routine and making novelty our new habit.

Why I Blog #3 Connect with others and yourself

I hope to encourage you to join groups that will feed your wanderlust, volunteer with organizations that will open your mind, and actually meet new friends to share a new hobby with. Let’s form communities than just groups.

Yes, even if I do not reach a spike in hits or endorse new travel destinations monthly, if I encouraged even one anonymous web crawler to do those three things, then I would have done my job.

I have many reasons in my mind whenever I ask myself why I am blogging. And few of those reasons were already posted on my blog. I agree with your reasons as well. I can tell that I am a type of person that doesn’t get comfortable enjoying what I know. I love to learn new skills and that is also another reason why I tried to blog. I super love your reason number 2.

Personally, I do not use any SEO thing to improve my blog’s search engines. I just write what I want to write and go from there. 🙂

That’s awesome of you. At least you know that all traffic is authentic and that differentiates you from others 🙂

I agree we should blog more responsibly and we should really have an advocacy when we blog and let others follow that advocacy.

Right. I like your blog’s advocacy by the way — running and fitness!

Seek beauty! It can be just around you or somewhere you want to go. ^_^ Traveling is an investment, investment for more life lessons and creating a wider horizon. ^_^

True. Sometimes, we think that our life was boring compared to those who exposed their well-off lifestyle on social media. We tend to forget to seek happiness in little things around us.

I agree. Sometimes, it’s fun to meet people without taking so much pictures

With all the clutter in cyberspace, you really have to say… you’re not part of the clutter. Ha!
